Sequoyah Sugiyama

Sequoyah Sugiyama, composition and viola (La Cañada, CA), is a BM candidate at the Juilliard School. Also a violist, he studies viola with Heidi Castleman and Misha Amory. Previously, he was a Herbert Zipper Scholar at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, studying composition with Bruce Miller and viola with John Hayhurst. He has had several compositions performed by the Colburn Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maxim Eshkenazy. He performed in the American Youth Symphony (serving as Assistant Principal Viola in his final year), Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, and Young Artists Symphony Orchestra, and took conducting classes at USC with Larry Livingston. Sequoyah participated in the UPBEAT International Music School in Croatia as a composer and violist, in the Aspen Music Festival on an Orchestral Fellowship for viola, and in the Hohenstaufen Kammermusik Akademie as a violist.
