Seth Knopp, Artistic Director, was a founding member of the Peabody Trio (1987-2017) and has been the Artistic Director of Yellow Barn since 1998. In 2008, he created Yellow Barn’s Artist Residencies, the first residency program for performing musicians in the United States. For 35 years Seth served on the piano and chamber music faculties at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Recent projects include Beethoven Walks, and performances for the opening of the Chou Wen-chung Center in Guangzhou, China, and the premiere recordings of Jörg Widmann’s song cycle Das Heiße Herz and Eric Nathan's song cycle Some Favored Nook. Catherine Stephan, Executive Director, started this phase of her Yellow Barn life in 2010. Formerly a cellist and student of David Wells, she spent three summers at Yellow Barn in the mid-90s. Before returning to Putney she was Executive Director of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and its record label, BMOP/sound, from 2000-2010. She has been a guest lecturer at New England Conservatory, Boston University, and UCLA, serves as a consultant for individual artists and ensembles, and has been a panelist for the Aaron Copland Fund for Music. She holds degrees from Wellesley College (B.A.) and Brandeis University (Artist Diploma). catherine@yellowbarn.org
