Madeline Cheng

Madeline Clara Cheng, composition (Los Altos, CA), has been the national first place winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Contest, a finalist of the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Award, and a Tribeca New Music honorable mention and emerging composer. She was the 2021 ICEBERG New Music Young Composer Scholarship recipient. Her cognitive scholarly work on music and the mind was selected for presentation by American Beethoven Society’s Beethoven@250 Festival. Madeline’s compositions have been featured in the US and abroad, including at the Luna Lab with LACO, the Bergen International Festival, the New Music on the Bluff Festival, and the Boston Virtual New Music Festival. Her works have been performed by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Chamber Project (St. Louis), the Boston New Music Initiative, the Triple Helix Piano Trio, the Julius Quartet, and the BIT20 Ensemble, among others. Madeline served as a 2019-20 fellow of Kaufman Music Center’s Luna Composition Lab. She also attended the 2021 Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Composition Program as a full scholarship awardee, and is currently participating in Salastina’s 2021-22 Sounds Promising Mentorship Program for Composers. In addition to composing, Madeline plays saxophone and piano.
