Katelyn Vahala

Katelyn Vahala, piano (Pasadena, CA), has completed her sophomore year studying piano performance with Dr. Lucinda Carver at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music. Katelyn placed first in the Southern California Bach Festival and was a 2014 YoungArts winner. A Da Camera Society Young Scholar in Residence, Katelyn has performed extensively as a chamber musician. Her ensemble Callisto Piano Trio, coached by Andrew Cook, received the Bronze medal in the senior division at the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She has also twice advanced to the semifinal round in the junior division. Katelyn has toured in Salzburg, Helsinki, Tallinn and St. Petersburg under the auspices of the Junior Chamber Music Honors Program. Additionally, she has attended the Colburn Academy Piano Festival, the Idyllwild Chamber Music Festival and the Sierra Academy of Music’s Chamber Music Unbound. Previous teachers include Dr. Susan Svrcek, Shari Raynor, Elizabeth Babor and Andrew Norman. Katelyn is a Trustee Scholar and Gluck Fellow at the University of Southern California. Past Yellow Barn Young Artists Program participant (Summer 2015).
