François Sarhan (b.1972)
Situation No.7 (Imagination) (2008)

François Sarhan is a French composer of mostly stage, chamber, and choral works that have been performed throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. He studied cello with Xavier Gagnepain at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Boulogne-Billancourt, and aesthetics and music history with Brigitte François-Sappey at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he later studied analysis with Alain Louvier and composition with Guy Reibel. In 2003, Sarhan won the Prix de la Ville de Bruxelles-Maïs at the Radiophonic sound poetry competition in Belgium.

He has written numerous articles on contemporary music, as well as a book, Histoire de la Musique, which traces the history of Western music from antiquity to the present day. Sarhan has served as Artistic Director of the collective vocal–instrumental ensemble CRWTH since 2000, which is active in the performance of multimedia projects. He previously taught at IRCAM, and currently teaches at the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg.
