Tristan Zhu

Tristan Zhu, violin (Chicago, IL) is a scholarship fellow at the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago, where he studies violin with Almita Vamos and Davis King. He is a member of the Pelios String Quartet, who won the Silver Medal at the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Junior String Competition and Gold Medal and Best Haydn Performance at the 2023 Saint Paul String Quartet Junior Competition. Tristan has soloed with the DuPage Symphony twice, as well as with the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Arts Orchestra, the West Suburban Orchestra, and the Fox Valley Orchestra. Tristan has also won top prizes at the Enkor, American Protege, “London” Grand Prize Virtuoso, and Odin competitions, among many more. He has participated in masterclasses with Midori Gotō, Ani Kavafian, David Finckel, Wu Han, Timothy Ridout, Richard Lin, Rachel Barton Pine, Kirill Troussov, and the Cuarteto Latinomericano. He has attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Montecito International Music Festival, International Academy of Music, and Goppisberger Musikfestival und Akademie. Additionally, Tristan performs with the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy Orchestra and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
