Matthew Boyle

Matthew Boyle, percussion (New Haven, CT), has performed in venues from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC to the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen, Colorado. Matt plays with the BoyleBeebe percussion duo and the illume duo (marimba + violin), exploring vibrant compositions by modern masters like Paul Lansky, Alejandro Viñao, and Philippe Manoury. Both groups’ repertoire also include transcriptions of pieces by revered composers such as Maurice Ravel and Astor Piazzolla. Deeply committed to contemporary music, Matt recently recorded Du Yun's "Where We Lost Our Shadows" with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Joseph Young. He also performed with the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, premiering John Luther Adams' "Crossing Open Ground" at the 2023 Aspen Music Festival and School, where he attended as the Avedis Zildjian Fellow. Having begun his studies with Eric Hollenbeck and Sam Um, Matt is now completing his undergraduate studies at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University under Robert van Sice, where he is a recipient of the Robert van Sice percussion scholarship.
