Joey Machin, viola (Toronto, Canada), is an avid chamber music performer and was a finalist in the McGill Chamber Music Competition in 2022 and 2023. He has played in both solo and string quartet contexts in masterclasses with Vadim Gluzman, Eugene Drucker, Paul Watkins, David Finckel, Jinjoo Cho, Marc Coppey, and the Dover Quartet. Joey enjoys writing and performing contemporary music. In addition to having had his own pieces recorded by the Bedford Trio and the Continuum Ensemble, he has performed and recorded several student compositions with his string quartet. In 2023, he performed in Le Vivier InterUniversitaire and with Jean-Michaël and the Ligeti Quartet at the Ligeti festival at Salle Bourgie. Joey studied violin in Toronto with Ivan Ivanovich and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at McGill University in the class of Violaine Melançon.
