Joan Herget

Joan Herget, cello (Calgary, Canada), currently studies at the Curtis Institute of Music with Peter Wiley and Gary Hoffman. She previously obtained a bachelor’s degree as a Presidential Distinction Award winning student of Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory. In 2022, she was awarded first place in NEC’s Lower Strings Concerto Competition and performed the Barber Cello Concerto as soloist with the NEC Philharmonia. Joan is also the winner of the CDA Young Artist Competition and Frank Simpson Concerto Competition, and two-time winner of the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition. She has performed with the Coeur D’Alene Symphony, Calgary Youth Orchestra, and Calgary Civic Symphony. In recent years, Joan has attended the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Heifetz Institute: Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar, and Morningside Music Bridge. She also attended the IMS Prussia Cove masterclass series in Cornwall, and will participate in the Open Chamber Music chapter this fall. Her love for chamber music led her to participate in 5 different chamber groups during her most recent semester at Curtis, and she has been privileged to receive guidance and direction from members of the Emerson, Brentano, Juilliard, Miró, Borromeo, and Dover quartets, as well as from Itzhak Perlman, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Merry Peckham, Steven Tenenbom, and Erin Keefe.
