Gerard Flotats

Gerard Flotats, cello (Solsona, Catalonia, Spain) was the winner of the Royal Over-Seas League Strings Competition 2023 and has also been selected for the Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artist and Tillett Debut schemes. An avid chamber musician, Gerard has collaborated with renowned artists such as Daniel Hope, Jens Peter Maintz, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Guy Johnston and the Doric Quartet. Gerard has been invited to perform at music festivals around the world such as IMS Prussia Cove, SHMF and Santander. His future engagements include Dvorak and Haydn C cello concerto performances scheduled for 2024 and recitals around the UK in venues including St. George’s Bristol and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. Since 2019, Gerard has been studying with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Academy of Music, where he has won the Regency Award and the Homi Kanga, Duo, and Craxton Prizes. He has participated in masterclasses with cellists such as Steven Isserlis, Mischa Maisky, Frans Helmerson, Miklos Perenyi and Steven Doane. Gerard is grateful for the support he has received from Help Musicians, ABRSM, Muster Trust, and Craxton Trust. He currently plays on a ‘Francesco Rugeri’ cello from 1689 on loan from the Royal Academy of Music.
