Blues Zhang

Blues Zhang, violin (Hong Kong), is a recent graduate of the Colburn Music Academy currently pursuing his bachelor's degree at The Juilliard School under Catherine Cho. Born into a musical family, Zhang first studied violin with his mother, Zhang Xi, sectional violinist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He went on to pursue studies with Martin Beaver, a former member of the Tokyo String Quartet. Zhang was a winner of the Colburn Academy Concerto Competition and a finalist in the Musicus Society Young Artist Audition and Juilliard Concerto Competition. An active orchestral musician, he served as concertmaster of the Colburn Academy Virtuosi, Diocesan Boys’ School’s String Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Camerata Strings. His festival appearances include Kneisel Hall, Juilliard ChamberFest, Meadowmount School of Music, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Heifetz International Music Institute, and the Asian Youth Orchestra. Zhang has appeared on NPR's “From the Top” and has collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and London Chamber Orchestra. In chamber music settings, Zhang has worked with members from the Azuri, Emerson, Juilliard, and Brentano string quartets. Zhang is a recipient of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, Greendale Scholarship, Dorothy Delay Scholarship, and Mai Family Scholarship.
