2021 Application for Yellow Barn's Young Artists Program

Application Instructions

Important note to those applying for the 2021 Young Artists Program:

Those musicians who would have participated in the 2020 Young Artists Program have been invited to participate in the summer of 2021, should we be able to go forward as hoped. If we are not able to go forward with an in-person Young Artists Program, we will again offer an online program with additional availability. We ask that 2020 participants commit to attending this online program by February 1, 2021. After that, their participation will be considered along with new applications received.

Although all of the positions are filled for an in-person program, we are accepting applications for alternates for both instrumentalists and composers, in the event that a position becomes available later in the process due to unforeseen circumstances. If a position does not become available, you will have the option of being considered this year for the summer of 2022. If instead you decide to withdraw your application, your application fee will be refunded.

About the application process:

This year, all audition performances will be submitted by video. Applicants should submit a video recording of three works, or substantial movements from three works of their choosing, that make very different demands on you as a player. Works can be from the solo, duo sonata, or concerto repertoire.

Performances of duo sonatas must be with your sonata partner.

Performances of concertos must include the orchestra part.

Audition videos made after October 1, 2020 are greatly preferred. However, due to the the difficulties we are all experiencing, 2 of the 3 video performances may be a recording from anytime after November 1, 2019. At least 1 work must be recorded after October 1, 2020.

The deadline for submitting your application is January 15, 2021.
