Abigail Hong

Abigail Hong, violin (Philadelphia, PA), began her studies at the age of three with Amy J. Lee and Soovin Kim. A native of Philadelphia, Abigail attended the Temple Boyer School of Music Preparatory as a Starling Scholarship Recipient, Settlement School of Music as an Advanced Study Scholarship Recipient, and also made her debut at Carnegie Hall in Weill Recital Hall after being a prizewinner at the New York Music Competition for YWCA. Abigail has played for audiences throughout the east and west coasts in New York, Vermont, California, New Hampshire, Missouri, Indiana, and abroad in France, Spain, and Denmark. This past summer, Abigail collaborated with members of the Emerson Quartet and violist Steven Dann, performing throughout Denmark. She has attended Yellow Barn Young Artist Program, Music@Menlo, Pablo Casals, New Music for Strings Royal Academy, Meadowmount School of Music, and Killington Music Festivals. Abigail has performed regularly in the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony in C, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Violinist of the Ivani Quartet, the Ivanis won First Prize and Bronze Prize at the 2017 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, respectively. The Ivani Quartet will attend the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar as one of the selected quartets and spend the rest of the summer as the String Quartet Fellows at Bowdoin International Music Festival. A strong advocate of bringing music to many other audiences, Abigail is the Concert Organizer for the Women's Lunch Place and the Core Concert Manager for Music For Food, a non-profit organization fighting hunger in local communities in Boston and New York. Abigail is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Soovin Kim. She currently plays a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume on generous loan to her through the Dorothy Bales Foundation. Past Yellow Barn Young Artists Program participant (2016).
