Boris Berman, piano
Boris Berman, piano, is active as a performer and recording artist. He has toured widely and performed with most of the world's major orchestras, as well as in recitals and at festivals in over 40 countries on five continents. He is a 2004 Grammy Award nominee and the author of Notes from the Pianist's Bench. He chairs the Piano Department at the Yale School of Music. Past Yellow Barn participant (2002-2006). [close]
Natasha Brofsky, cello
Natasha Brofsky, cello, is the cellist of the Naumburg Award-winning Peabody Trio, which tours regularly throughout the U.S., Canada, and England, has recorded for CRI, New World, and Artek, and is ensemble-in-residence at Peabody Conservatory. She is a former member of the string trio Opus 3 and the Serapion Ensemble, and she has performed as a guest with the Takács, Cassatt, and Norwegian Quartets, among others. Stephen Coxe, composer
Stephen Coxe, composer, is a recipient of Aaron Copland, Artspace, ASCAP, Composers Guild, Meet the Composer, and National Association of Composers Awards and a BAEF Fellowship. He has received commissions from American Voices, Musicians Accord, The Peabody Trio, Sequitur, and others, and has held residencies at Yaddo, Ragdale, and Virginia Center. Christina Dahl, piano
Christina Dahl, piano, is active as a soloist, chamber artist and teacher. She is a former USIA Artistic Ambassador, and has taught at the Cleveland Institute and the Peabody Conservatory. She currently serves as piano faculty and Director of Chamber Music at SUNY Stony Brook.[close]
Mario Davidovsky, composer
Mario Davidovsky, composer, a native of Argentina, Mario began composing at the age of 13. He settled in the U.S. in 1960 and has since received many prestigious honors, including Naumburg and Guggenheim Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. He is Fanny Peabody Manson Professor of Music, Emeritus at Harvard University and director of the Wellesley Composers Conference. [close]
Steven Doane, cello
Steven Doane, cello, is well known in the U.S. and abroad as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber artist. He is a former member of the Naumburg Award-winning New Arts Trio and is former principal cellist of the Milwaukee Symphony and the Rochester Philharmonic. He holds the Eisenhart Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Eastman School of Music, where he has taught since 1981, and he serves as a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music in London.[close]
Jean-Michel Fonteneau, cello
Jean-Michel Fonteneau, cello, is a founding member of the Ravel String Quartet, winner of two prizes at the Evian International String Quartet Competition, and the recipient of Les Victoires de la Musique Classique Award for best French chamber music ensemble. Peter Frankl, piano *
Peter Frankl, piano, has performed on five continents and with many of the world’s major orchestras. He is renowned as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber artist, and is often heard with cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, among others. He has performed with the Amadeus, Takács, Tokyo, Guarneri, and Vermeer string quartets, among others. Bonnie Hampton, cello
Bonnie Hampton, cello, was a winner, with her late husband, pianist Nathan Schwartz, and the Francesco Trio, of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award. She is a past participant at the Casals and Marlboro Festivals, among others. She has performed with the Juilliard, Guarneri, Cleveland, and Budapest Quartets, and has served as President of Chamber Music America. Mark Hill, oboe
Mark Hill, oboe, is principal of the National Philharmonic and a frequent guest artist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He is a member of the New York Chamber Symphony and Sylvan Winds. He serves on the faculty of the University of Maryland. He has performed with the Guarneri Quartet and the New York Philharmonic, and he tours frequently with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Mark is a Grammy-nominated English horn player. Gilbert Kalish, piano
Gilbert Kalish, piano, served for nearly three decades as Chairman of Faculty at the Tanglewood Music Center. He has been a featured guest at many festivals including Ravinia, Banff, and Marlboro. A longtime collaborator with the great soprano Jan DeGaetani, he now performs regularly with soprano Dawn Upshaw, cellists Joel Krosnick and Timothy Eddy, and other leading artists. Michael Kannen, cello
Michael Kannen, cello, was a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Brentano String Quartet and a former member of the Meliora String Quartet and the Figaro Trio. He has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and is a member of the Apollo Trio and the New York Philomusica. Anssi Karttunen, cello *
Anssi Karttunen, cello, is well known as a soloist and chamber musician, with a discography that ranges from the complete Beethoven works for cello to a concerto by Kaija Saariaho commissioned for him and the Boston Symphony, which he premiered this February. He has worked with many of the world’s major orchestras and has served as principal of the London Sinfonietta. He has appeared at many festivals, including Spoleto, Salzburg, and others.[close]

Kim Kashkashian, viola, is active throughout the U.S. and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. Paul Katz, cello
Paul Katz, cello , was cellist of the Cleveland Quartet, with which he had a long international career spanning four continents, more than 2,500 appearances, and 70 recordings. His recent accolades have included the Richard M. Bogomolny Award, recognizing a lifetime of distinguished service to the field of chamber music. Alan Kay, clarinet
Alan Kay, clarinet , is a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He is Artistic Director of the New York Chamber Ensemble, a member of Hexagon and Windscape, and frequent performer with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Seth Knopp, piano
Seth Knopp, piano, is Artistic Director of Yellow Barn and a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Peabody Trio. He is founder and co-director of the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program. As a member of the Knopp-Melançon Duo, he was a winner of the USIA Artistic Ambassador Competition, which resulted in tours throughout Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, and Japan. He is a member of the Peabody Conservatory piano and chamber music faculties. Seth has recorded on the CRI, Analekta, New World Records, and Artek labels. Maria Lambros, viola, is a former member of the Mendelssohn, Meliora, and Ridge String Quartets. She has received a Grammy nomination, the Naumburg Chamber Music Award, and Europe’s Diapason d’Or. She has performed with the Guarneri, Cleveland, Juilliard, Brentano, Borromeo, and Orion Quartets, with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and at the Spoleto and Aspen festivals, among others. Curtis Macomber, violin, is a versatile artist equally at home with repertoire ranging from Bach to Babbitt. He is a former member of the New World String Quartet, with which he toured internationally for many years. He is a founding member of the Apollo Trio. Nicholas Mann, viola/violin, is a founding violinist of the Mendelssohn String Quartet, now in its 28th year. He currently serves on the faculty of Juilliard and co-chairs the string department at the Manhattan School of Music. He is a former faculty member at Harvard, the Hartt School, and the North Carolina School for the Arts. Robert Mann, violin , is known worldwide as founding first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet, which he led for 51 years. He currently maintains an active career as soloist, composer, conductor, and teacher. He is a Visiting Professor at the Juilliard School, a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Philharmonic, and President of the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation. Anthony Marwood, violin
Anthony Marwood, violin, is Artistic Director of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and a member of the Gramophone Award-winning Florestan Trio. He was named Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2006 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards. Violaine Melançon, violin
Violaine Melançon, violin, is a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Peabody Trio, with which she performs internationally. She serves on the violin and chamber music faculties of Peabody Conservatory. She was a winner, with the Nisaika Quartet, of the Eighth International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France, and, with the Knopp-Melançon Duo, of the USIA Artistic Ambassadors Award. Katherine Murdock, viola , is a member of the Los Angeles Piano Quartet and a former member of the Mendelssohn String Quartet. She has toured with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Music from Marlboro, and the Boston Chamber Music Society, and has collaborated with members of the Vermeer, Emerson, and Cleveland Quartets. Susan Narucki, soprano
Susan Narucki, soprano, well known as a recitalist and soloist, is a familiar presence in the world’s major concert halls and opera houses. She recently made her Netherlands Opera debut creating the role of Catherina Bolnes in Writing to Vermeer. She also performed the role of Pat Nixon in excerpts from John Adams’ Nixon in China with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and premiered Scriabin’s Mysterium: Humanity with the San Francisco Symphony. Susan’s extensive discography includes a 2001 Grammy Award-winning disc of works by George Crumb and a Cannes Award-winning CD for Best Recording of Works by a Living Composer. The Peabody Trio, ensemble-in-residence
The Peabody Trio now in its 20th year, has been in residence at Yellow Barn since 1998. Winners of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1989, the Trio has performed in most of the major chamber music series in North America and frequently tours in England, Japan, and Israel. They have appeared at many festivals, including Ravinia and Tanglewood, and have served as resident faculty ensemble at Peabody Conservatory since 1989. Equally committed to the classics of the repertoire as well as to important new works, the group is known for its innovative collaborative projects for trio and actor. Marina Piccinini, flute, is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, and has performed as soloist and with orchestras across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. She has performed at the Mostly Mozart and Marlboro Festivals, among others, and has premiered works by several eminent composers. Marina has recorded for Sony, CBC, and Claves Records. Aliza Stewart, Feldenkrais
Aliza Stewart, Feldenkrais practitioner, is a teacher and pianist who works with musicians to help them overcome performance-related injuries and find increased freedom of expression. She has taught Feldenkrais at The Peabody Institute, Marlboro Music Festival, and Yellow Barn, and she has presented the Method at the Mannes and Manhattan Schools of Music, as well as at medical conferences related to musician injuries. Stephen Stirling, French horn *
Stephen Stirling, French horn, is well known as a soloist and chamber artist, regularly appearing on BBC Radio and TV, and recently at the inaugural concert of London’s new Cabot Hall. He is a member of the Endymion, Capricorn, and The Fibonocci Sequence ensembles and was a founding member of CoE Soloists, with whom he recorded Mozart’s complete chamber music for wind ensemble.
