Justin Almazan, viola
Yujin Ariza, violin
Yujin Ariza, violin, currently attends the Menlo School where he studies with Li Lin. Ariza applied to YAP to further mature his chamber music experience.
Sarah Atwood, violin
Sarah Atwood, violin, is in her last year of her homeschool program and currently studies with Katie Lansdale. Atwood is a past Young Artists Program participant (2009). Atwood’s reason for applying to YAP is the glorious music and coaching -- she relishes the opportunity to play chamber music with such talented musicians, and to have the chance to work intensely with an ensemble.
Shundeena Beard, viola
Shundeena Beard, viola, is attending the Peabody Institute and currently studies with Stephen Wyrezinski. Beard is looking forward to attending YAP for its intensive training opportunity.
Yuki Beppu, violin
Yuki Beppu, violin, attends the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division where she studies with Joseph Silverstein and Julianne Lee. Beppu is excited to attend YAP to learn music with other musicians and faculty during an intensive period of time.
Hui Shan Chin, piano
Hui Shan Chin, piano, is working towards her Bachelor of Music at Bard College. Chin currently studies with Jeremy Denk, and applied to the Young Artists Program this summer to work with the wonderful artists (faculty) and also get to know more people who are passionate about music.
Justin DeFilippis, violin
Justin DeFilippis, violin, is currently studying at the Juilliard Preparatory Division and is a member of the New York Youth Symphony. DeFilippis studies with Elizabeth Chang and applied to YAP after hearing about it from friends and teachers.
Cecille deLaurentis, cello
Cecille deLaurentis, cello, is working towards her Bachelor of Arts at Barnard College and currently studies with Wolfram Koessel. deLaurentis is a past Young Artists Program participant (2009), and looks forward to second summer at YAP to really inspire her as a musician and to help her progress.
Tamzin Elliott, composer
Tamzin Elliott, composer, attends San Deguito Academy and studies composition with Roger Reynolds at UCSD. Elliott is a past Young Artists Program participant (2007, 2008, 2009). Elliott applied again this summer because she finds that YAP consistently challenges her in new ways, and is now convinced that the benefits do not diminish year to year, plus, she adds, “it has been ridiculously fun.”
Alex Fager, violin
Alex Fager, violin, currently studies with Li Lin. Fager is a past Young Artists Program participant (2009) and applied again this summer because of his great, productive experience last year.
Phillip Golub, composer
Phillip Golub, composer, attends Crossroads school and is currently studying composition with Tamir Hendelman. Golub applied to YAP upon the recommendation from a fellow composition student friend.
Kevin Hsu, viola
Kevin Hsu, viola, attends Saratoga High School and currently studies with Jodi Levitz. Hsu applied to YAP because he loves chamber music, and wishes to learn how to communicate better.
Sung Yup “Sam” Jung, composer
Sung Yup “Sam” Jung, composer, attends Phillips Academy Andover and studies with John Rodney Lister at the New England Conservatory. Jung applied to YAP this summer because he has less time during the academic year to focus on composition and is highly committed to improving his ability to compose.
Alexi Kenney, violin
Alexi Kenney, violin, attends the Palo Alto High School and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division where he studies with Wei He. Kenney applied to YAP at the recommendation of his friends and because chamber music is a huge passion of his.
Carlyn Kessler, cello
Carlyn Kessler, cello, is working towards her Bachelor of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music and currently studies with Melissa Kraut. Kessler’s reason for applying is that her true passion is chamber music, and she would love nothing more than to attend such an esteemed program that focuses on that very activity.
Alexander Krew, cello
Alexander Krew, cello, attends Centennial High School and the Peabody Institute Preparatory Division where he studies with Alison Wells. Krew applied to YAP this summer because he feels like it will prepare him well for his musical studies at college.
Leah Latorraca, violin
Leah Latorraca, violin, attends Madison La Follette High School and Music Institute of Chicago – the Academy where she currently studies with Desiree Ruhstrat. Latorraca applied to YAP this summer because she is looking for a high level chamber program to participate in.
Christine Lee, cello
Christine Lee, cello, attends Soquel High School and currently studies with Bonnie Hampton. Lee applied to YAP because she is looking for a challenging, rigorous experience to improve her musical abilities. She is looking forward to learning from the accomplished and great members of the faculty.
Sophia Mockler, violin
Sophia Mockler, violin, attends the Saint Ann’s School and the Juilliard School Preparatory Division. Mockler currently studies with Catherine Cho and was interested in applying to the Young Artists Program at the recommendation from friends and teachers.
Leann Osterkamp, piano
Leann Osterkamp, piano, currently attends the Juilliard School and studies with Julian Martin.
IhnSeon Park, violin
IhnSeon Park, violin, attends the Juilliard School/Columbia College program where she currently studies with Itzhak Perlman. Park looks forward to the faculty providing a most enlightening experience at YAP.
Samuel Pierce-Ruhland, cello
Samuel Pierce-Ruhland, cello, attends the Eastman School of Music where he is currently studying with Steven Doane. Pierce-Ruhland is a past Young Artists Program participant (2009) and wants to return because of his positive experience the first time around.
Reina Murooka, violin
Reina Murooka, violin, attends Saratoga High School and is currently studying with Wei He. Murooka is interested in spending this summer concentrating on chamber music because she has recently taken a large interest in it.
Jeremiah Siochi, composer
Jeremiah Siochi, composer, is homeschooled and studies composition with Daniel Houglum.
Gabriella Smith, composer
Gabriella Smith, composer, attends the Curtis Institute of Music and studies with David Ludwig. Smith is a past Young Artists Program participant (2009). Smith applied to YAP this summer because she loves composing and wants to work with the wonderful composition teachers and young musicians in the program.
Andrew Tang, viola
Andrew Tang, viola, attends Simsbury High, the Juilliard School Preparatory Division and the Hartt School of Music Preparatory Division. Tang currently studies with Laura Seay and Heidi Castleman. He applied to the Young Artists Program because he sees it as a great opportunity to retain and improve his skills before “shipping” off to [conservatory] in the fall.
Niels Verosky, composer
Niels Verosky, composter, attends San Francisco University High School and San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division where he studies with Arkadi Serper.
Joinatsuru Yanai, cello
Joinatsuru Yanai, cello, attends the Walnut Hill School where she studies with Laurence Lesser. Third prize recipient in the Fischoff Competition Junior Division with her quartet. Yanai applied to the Young Artists Program because she has a strong wish to become a chamber music player herself (especially in a string quartet).
