Yellow Barn is Seeking a Development and Marketing Manager

Yellow Barn Music School and Festival is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Development and Marketing Manager. This is a full-time position that will report to the Managing Director.

Yellow Barn Music School & Festival, based in Putney, Vermont, is an internationally respected chamber music training program with renowned faculty, innovative programming, and extraordinary participants. This combination of faculty, programming, and participants has brought the program wide acclaim. Yellow Barn is entering its 39th season, with a summer concert program of 25 concerts and other events and a series of off-season concerts.

Yellow Barn has recently embarked on a Capital Campaign that will, for the first time, enable the organization to own its own rehearsal studios, locating them on the campus of an independent boarding school in Putney, Vermont that will serve as the summer campus of the 8 week program.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of three years experience as an effective fundraiser and/or experience of marketing
  • Outstanding writing skills and strong social and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with an arts-based organization of similar scope
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Competence with database management; candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative small office environment.

Responsibilities

The Development and Marketing Manager will be responsible, with the Managing Director, for developing and implementing Yellow Barn's fundraising and marketing strategies. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

Development

  • Set major donor development strategy and determine major donor focus list
  • Work with the development committee in solicitation and development of major donors
  • Coordinate all donor solicitations, including solicitation materials
  • Manage Yellow Barn's annual fundraising campaign:
  • Develop annual campaign goals
  • Write, produce, and mail annual appeal letters and other materials
  • Track results through appropriate databases and steward annual donors
  • Steward and administer donations for the Capital Campaign
  • Increase financial support from corporate and foundation sources, developing corporate and foundation target lists, writing grant proposals, and cultivating relationships with decision-makers at these organizations
  • Organize fundraising events, including annual house concerts and fundraising galas
  • Review and upgrade Yellow Barn's presentation materials
  • Review Yellow Barn's mailing list; upgrade or change as necessary
  • Co-ordinate fundraising initiatives for Yellow Barn's 40th anniversary season in 2009

Marketing

  • Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to maximize revenue from ticket sales; monitor and project future sales
  • Assist the Managing Director in developing an annual communications strategy, to enhance the profile of Yellow Barn within the local community and throughout the United States
  • Develop regular communications materials with key stakeholders including direct distribution of promotional materials in both printed and electronic forms
  • Manage and keep updated the Yellow Barn website
  • Develop marketing research programs as appropriate

Other

  • Attend staff, committee, and Board meetings as needed to report on the status of fundraising and marketing activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

Salary will depend on level of experience.
