Sarah Shim

Sarah Shim, viola (Incheon, South Korea), started the viola at age 10. She actively participates in solo competitions, orchestras, chamber ensembles, music festivals and community volunteer services. Sarah has been principal violist of Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, All Southern Orchestra, All State Orchestra and All National Junior Orchestra. She is currently principal violist for the 2016-2017 season of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and has won solo competitions such as 1st place in ASTA State of California Solo Competition, ASTA Los Angeles Finals Solo Competition, ASTA Pasadena Solo Competition, ASTA Regionals Solo Competition, American Pretege Solo Competition, and various competitions in South Korea. In 2015, Sarah performed at Carnegie Hall as a winner of the American Pretege. She has also played in masterclasses under the coaching of Violist Roberto Diaz, Máté Szűcs, Steven Tenenbom, and has had lessons at music festivals with violist Huang Hung-Wei and Maxim Rysanov. sarah is currently a student at the Colburn Music Academy where she studies with Professor Paul Coletti. She will be attending the New England Conservatory of Music this coming fall for viola performance.
