Mei Zhan

Mei Zhan, violin (ShenYang, China), currently studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University with Violaine Melançon. Mei has performed as a soloist with the Liaoning Symphony, and performed in recital with Xinhua Hu, the concertmaster of the Shenzhen Symphony. She received a full scholarship to study at the Music Institute of Chicago, studying with Almita Vamos, and subsequently attended the Idyllwild Arts Academy. She studied with Aimée Kreston at the Colburn Music Academy, where she was a member of the Ed and Mari Edelman Chamber Music Institute’s Honors Quartet. She has won first prize and a gold medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She has participated in the Sierra Summer Festival Orchestra, and has attended masterclasses with Shmuel Ashkenasi, Martin Beaver, Midori, Mark Steinberg, and the Juilliard String Quartet. Mei’s chamber group was invited to perform the opening concert at Chamber Music Amarillo. Previous Yellow Barn Young Artists Program participant (2017)
