Ian Maloney

Ian Maloney, cello (Hackensack, NJ), is a student of Madeleine Golz in the Pre-College Division of the Manhattan School of Music, where he is the principal cellist of the Symphony Orchestra. Ian was the first-place winner of both the concerto and chamber music competitions as well as the recipient of the Hansoree Scholarship for outstanding talent and academic achievement. His piano trio was featured in the Manhattan School of Music’s Centennial Opening Day Celebration. Ian has won numerous music competitions including first place in the 2019 Camerata Artists International Competition, performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations at Merkin Hall in New York City. Ian has appeared on WQXR’s Young Artist Showcase, NPR’s From the Top, and in music videos with Brooklyn’s Project Trio and violinist Joshua Bell. He has performed in masterclasses for Paul Katz, Clive Greensmith, David Finckel, Steven Doane, Colin Carr, and others. Ian also plays piano, trumpet, soprano saxophone, and French horn. For the past four summers, Ian has attended the Young Performers Program at Music@Menlo Chamber Music Institute in Atherton, California.
