David Ludwig

David Ludwig, composer (Philadelphia, PA) has been listed, by NPR Music, as one of the Top 100 Composers Under Forty in the world in 2011 and has received commissions from artists such as the Grammy Award-winning eighth blackbird ensemble. His music has been played by the Curtis On Tour Ensemble, the Minnesota Orchestra, the National Symphony, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, among others.  David was awarded the First Music Award, an Independence Foundation Fellowship, and a Theodore presser Foundation Career Grant, as well as grants from the American Composers Forum, the American Music Center, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Upcoming commissions include a works for Lara St. John, the PRISM Saxophone Quartet, a double concerto for Jennifer Koh and Jaime Laredo, Jonathan Biss, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Last season featured performances by Marina Piccinini, eighth blackbird, and the Detroit Chamber Winds, to name a few, as well as the premiere of his Symphony No. 1 The Book of Hours.  He has been in residence at the Marlboro Music School, and the Yaddo and MacDowell artist colonies. David is the New Music Advisor for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and is on the composition faculty of the Curtis Institute where he serves as the Artistic Chair of Performance and as the director of the Curtis 20/21 Contemporary Music Ensemble.
